Happy Friday, Friends. I am constantly amazed how fast the week goes by, and Friday always seems to come too quickly. I am eager to share with you my Persian Rug runner before the week ends. Persian Rug is featured in Annie’s newly release book, Fat Quarter Shuffle.
All the projects in Fat Quarter Shuffle have to use only 6 fat quarters, with blending yardages allowed. Because of the size (32″ x 15″), My Persian Rug runner top uses exactly 6 fat quarters for its construction, without any help from extra yardages.
Persian Rug uses fabrics from Riley Blake’s Serenata‘s collection – lots of beautiful flora and foliage… in gray, yellow and blue, a rather yummy combination, don’t you think?
This project illustrates the concept of “quilting makes the quilt”. Let’s start with the image of the runner top before quilting. You will notice that the blocks are normal blocks made with squares, unassuming.
The square blocks sort of take on a glamorous turn after strands of pearls are quilted on them, don’t you think? Somehow the quilting has altered the square look of the blocks, and now they don’t look so square anymore, do they?
Quilting was done using Aurifil Mako 50 Cotton thread over Hobbs Tuscany Silk batting. The reason I love Aurifil for quilting is because I can quilt these precious pebbles/precious teeny tiny and not ever have issue with thread buildup.
Here is a close-up shot:
And here is a super close-up shot. The pebbles were quilted free-handed in contrasting thread after I drew the petal outline on the blocks. Click here to read my Thread Talk post on contrast quilting.
Aurifil Mako 50 Cotton + Hobbs Tuscany Silk Batting + Free-handed pebbles = the following image!
You have probably noticed the pebbles aren’t the only elements that are tiny. The gray sashing you see finish at 1/4″ wide. I personally like the effect of narrow sashing strips. I think they make strong visual statements.
I thoroughly enjoyed making Persian Rug. I hope you have enjoyed seeing it as well.

Thanks for stopping by, Dear Friends! I do wish you have a most blessed weekend. See you next week – I will have more featured projects to share!

Oh, my WORD!! It’s absolutely LOVELY!
This is an absolutely darling table runner, I love it! And, the name is perfect, the multi-boarders with the thin line of white really give it persian rug perfection.
Have a great day.
Always, Queenie
Very nice…
Beautiful table runner and the quilting is unmatchable.
Lovely runner! It would look very pretty on my table. Have a great weekend!
I so agree…..the thread works so well with tiny motifs (without the thready build-up heaviness). Such a beautiful little project and your quilting sets off the piecing, creating a wonderful added dimension. As always, impeccable finish. Hugs……SSAB
Ooh!! I really like this one! Great pattern, wonderful fabrics, spectacular quilting. The fun and creative quilting really sets it off. Definitely a first place winner!!! Have a fun weekend.
Gorgeous little quilt! The fabrics are perfect for the project, and that quilting really does make the quilt!
Beautiful fabrics, precise piecing, stunning quilting. Wow!
I love it Wendy!
Wow, very pretty Wendy. But of course your quilting takes it over the top. Beautiful!
Good day Wendy! I love the simplicity of both the piecing and the quilting. Unusual style quilting with the pebbles like that. It really accents the quilt well.
the quarter inch bordering is a great move, too.
Have a good weekend friend!
Wendy, that is a fascinating pattern! I love how the quilting adds its own geometric shape to the pattern. I see a cross which I love.

That looks beautiful, Wendy. The first element I noticed was the tiny sashing and then the pearls. Both make the quilt so spectacular.
It is gorgeous! Your quilting is always so pretty.
This is so pretty and inspires me to make something similar for a friend who requested “Italianique” when I asked her what style of quilt she’d like. I think this may fulfill that description if made with some Italianique colors!
That is so cute! Love the “pearls.”

Wendy you’ve outdone yourself once again. The fabric selection, design and quilting are just beautiful on this wee table runner. I adore the tiny quilted pebbles AND the 1/4 inch border trim. I must use this in a runner soon – – thank you so much for sharing! Have a wonderful weekend, Karen
Those tiny pebbles are soooo perfect for this piece. I think you should write your own pattern book!!
Wendy this is just beautiful. Amazing work.
