The adults in the Ivory Spring household simply adore the 1995 BBC rendition of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I like this Mr. Darcy:

But I think I dislike this Mr. Darcy. Click here to read more. I don’t know, this Mr. Darcy just makes me go “Huh?”:

What is your take?! This Jane Austen fan dearly wants to know….
Love the 1995 Mr. Darcy. The statue gives me the creeps.
Yes, creepy!
Wonder if it will still be there when we go in September…
Love the first Darcy. Second one is WAY creepy!
Yea for the old, ugh to the new!!
My mom and I agree! We LOVE Colin Firth as Mr Darcy! My mom loved that miniseries so much in fact, she bought a copy for all SIX of her children! It’s so funny that you bring this up because I think my mom is on a mission to see every P & P ever made! She compares ever Mr Darcy to Colin Firth as if he is the gold standard!
The first one is yummy and huggable !! The second one….I’m glad you said it’s a statue.. Creepy and I was wondering what was wrong with him….icky…..
I agree with everyone. The statue doesn’t even come close, what where they thinking.
That is quite revolting (the staue I mean!) and it doesn’t resemble the original in the smallest degree! Who would want to put that on display?? I need a glass of wine – to recover :-)
Agreed, Colin Firth is the penultimate Mr. Darcy as Jennifer Ehle is the best Elizabeth. We were able to record it when PBS did a whole series of Jane Austen movies a few years ago. I’m surprised it hasn’t worn out–even DH really like it. My very DB just gave me the Keira Knightley version, and the few minutes I saw of it on TV, I didn’t like it at all. My DD has watched the whole thing and doesn’t like it a bit What to say–we are spoiled by having watched the best. I do actually like the Greer Garson-Laurence Olivier version, but only because I think of it as a different story–it’s all played for comedy which is fun, but nothing like the book.
I am with you on this! I purchased all the Jane Austen movies from PBS and I watch them over and over…. ♥
Eeoo! And 12 ft. tall!!??? Really?? It’s gotta be a “Brit” thing!!!!!
p.s. Just sent a Fb message with the link to friends in UK for their opinion……..
#1 Definitely!
OK… huh? On another note, I love this movie and couldn’t imagine anyone else playing Mr. Darcy.
My favorite movie of all time. The statue is just creepy – lol!!
Are you kidding???? Hopefully, the fiberglass won’t hold up long!
Ain’t nothin’ like the real thing! Love Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy
I agree with you on both counts – that’s my favorite version of P&P, but that statue is a little creepy!
Ugh– scary! On the side I stayed at the Dolphin Hotel in Southampton UK
recently where Jane Austin is reported to have celebrated her 18th birthday! Awesome, I highly recommend.
I agree with you. What a stupid idea, putting a statue (a badly done one, at that) in a lake!
As we say in the South, “That ain’t right.”
I really like Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy also and I agree with the consensus on the “statue… creepy” vibe! LOL!!
