Hello my friends, I hope you had a blessed Easter, and today is check-in #1 for Sweet & Spiffy QAL! I am very excited to make this quilt with you! This is another low-stress and low demand QAL because that’s the only kind I can do at this juncture of my life! Please do not feel like you have to constrain yourself to my proposed schedule. You just sew at the pace that works BEST for you!

If you are just hearing about the QAL, click HERE for details.

Finished quilt size is 72 1/2″ square.

Pattern —

You may check with your local quilt shops for printed pattern.

Or you may purchase the digital pattern from my Etsy shop HERE.

Kit —

Pattern is included with the kits! Check with your local quilt shops, or the following stores are stocking the kits as well:

Fat Quarter Shop link HERE.

Missouri Quilt Company link HERE. Currently out of stock. I don’t know if they are restocking.

123Stitch link HERE – they are a needlework online store, but they also stock many of my printed patterns! I often shop here for needlework goodies.

WE ARE HERE –> April 5: Test Block

So for today, we are just going to make one (test) block by following the instructions in the pattern.

  • You may use fabric scraps, or you may use the fabrics selected for your quilt
  • The purpose of doing a test block is for you to figure out what the process is like, and if you might want to customize the construction process that works best for you.
  • I also use the process of making a test block to make notes for myself in case there are any tricky spots.

Here is a link for you to download a larger block diagram for your notes.

In testing the pattern, I have made a few blocks. Here they are. For me, the slightly trickly part is the seam orientations of the yellow and purple pieces. Otherwise, everything else is pretty straightforward.

And that’s it…. one test block, easy peasy!

I moved the next check-in date from April 15 to April 17 because I have already committed to two QALs that day. One is my Christmas All Year Round QAL, and the other is Piece and Sew Sample Quilt along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop.

Soooo, I will see you in 12 days when we will make all the corner units for the pieced blocks. They are the same for all the colorways. I thought it would just be easier to make those all at one go.

Thank you for sewing along with me! Have a great weekend!

If you have sewn along my previous QALs, you know my QALS are low stress and low demand. That’s the only kind that I can keep up because my days always turn out to be like a moving target, haha. Here are the remaining dates!

April 17: Corner Units (20)

April 25: 4 Purple Blocks

May 6: 5 Aqua Blocks

May 16: Catch Up Day

May 26: Quilt Assembly

  1. this is a really cute quilt!

Easter was quiet here. My older daughter did come up to visit with her girls and hubbs, We hugged a lot.

I know all of you are doing great! and Gwendolin is growing now into a smart spiffy young adult! Time flies

My other daughter lived in Bristow (the younger one, Elizabeth) her husband is a controlling and rude person. I do not know why he is so mean to us but we have not seen them in two years

I am going to try to make one of these blocks!!
