I want one of these…

I found this adorable antique sewing machine on the cover of “Oldtimer Sewing Machine” by Otto Landgraf who collects antique sewing machines. I want one just like it with the modern electronics built in! How about you?

Now curious mind wants to hear about your antique sewing machine, if you have one or two or more.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a lovely weekend.

p.s. Several of you have written and told me you saw my project in American Patchwork & Quilting! Thanks for writing – so sweet of you. I am eagerly waiting for my copy to arrive with the project sample so that I can take more pictures of the tablerunner to show you. I am finding it hard to be patient in this particular situation…

  1. That is so cute!

My grandmother had an old tredle (sp) Singer that she had electrified and sewed with it her whole life till she was 90!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  2. I think that would be the best marriage of steampunk.
I have a 1923 Singer LaVincadora (not sure about that spelling) hand crank. It is a beauty and works a treat. When the world goes dark, I’ll still be sewing.

  3. Hi Wendy,
I have an inherited Singer Treadle machine with the date 1915. My grandma left this beautiful girl to me and it has come with all original books and tools. I have used it aswell and it sews like a dream.
I have been offered money for it on many an occasion but I will never part with my little piece of heaven.
    Regards Jenny

  4. This is the most unusual sewing machine I’ve ever seen. Thanks for sharing. My grandmother also had a Singer treadle that I played with (unthreaded). I wish I had it.

  5. Just imagine the look on the Victorian lady’s face when her husband surprised her with this treasure! Do you suppose she pieced her Crazy Quilts together with this machine before beginning the embroidery process? I bet she had a party in honor of her newly acquired sewing machine. :) Thanks for sharing. Happy Friday!

  6. I’ve never seen anything quite like it, how amazing. I have an antique toy one and the usual Singer treadle and two featherweights. I have seen modern quilters using the treadle and it’s amazing the control they have over it.

  7. Isn’t that something ?!? Used to study antique machines, this is a new one to me. I don’t think I could sew on it with it looking at me all the time :). Have a Singer Treadle like my grandmother’s from 1913, and some vintage, but not antique machines: a Bernina 830, a Pfaff 18, a Necchi Supernova, and Singer 99, 201 & 401. Would love to collect more antique machines, just need more $ and square footage ;)

  8. I have my Grandmother’s Singer treadle. I sewed on a treadle until I was in college…1972 and my Mother still didn’t have an electric machine.
I have a featherweight and just purchased an Elna that I’m working on getting perfected…it works but makes a lot of noise.

  9. I have my grandmother’s treadle machine and I can remember watching her sewing at the machine. I’ve tried using a few times and had great difficulty getting my hands and feet to work together but after reading your post I’m determined to go down and practice until I get it (I’ll have to pray to Grandma to send down some of her experience) haha.

  10. that is so interesting. never seen such a thing. I don’t have an antique machine.
which issue of the magazine is the runner in? I have the April issue and didn’t see it.

  11. I have a Singer Featherweight made in 1938 …. is that considered an antique yet? I love it, love it, love it. Also have my MIL’s Pfaff 130 that probably dates to the 30s. She made baby layettes for my two children on the Pfaff so it holds a special place in my heart.

  12. I have 3 treadle sewing machines so far. I’d love to have that one, too. So cool looking. Mine are all Singers from 1889, 1896 and 1910. I’m using one of them. They are great machines. Nice to ‘unplug’ at times.

  13. Wow I love that, I’ve never seen one like it. I’d love to have a treadle though – for days when the power goes out. Or even just for the exercise, lol.

  14. This has to be a one of a kind? Never have seen any thing to compare.
I wish I knew how to download pictures. I have a beautiful unique treadle machine.

  15. Good luck with that ( wanting one, that is)!
This is a Kimball & Morton machine that is ultra rare. Only a few are known to exist. In recent years, one sold at auction for $25,000!
