Announcing #ChestnutGroveQAL

FOLLOW ME @ivory_spring on Instagram IF YOU HAVEN’T. Instagram is where I best interact with quilters, and where I share the latest news!

***

Hello Friends, Happy Wednesday to you! I hope you have been well. It’s been wet and cold over here. I have heard from some of you who are experiencing icy weather. I hope you will be very careful when you are out there.

Where we have been…

First of all, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sewing along Norfolk Quilt last year! It was so fun to see the different fabric choices quilters have picked for their own Norfolk quilts. To me, that’s simply the best part of the year-long quilt along! This one is from Celia in Canada.

I completed the quilt top for the quilt along version using a One Fine Day FQ… BUT for the life of me, I cannot find the backing fabric.

My pet-peeve is to have a bunch of unquilted quilt tops laying around. I have a fabric piece that will work for the backing. But you know how that goes — as soon as the quilt is quilted with the substitute backing fabric, the REAL and originally intended backing fabric will show up. What to do, what to do, except to keep on looking?

NEW SERIES QUILT – CHESTNUT GROVE

1. FORMAT — Check in EVERY FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH

It will be informal check-ins just like last year. This year, it will be the first Friday of each month, starting from March 3 through November. There will be a catch-up month in there! Get your first block done the first Friday of each month, and share your pictures on social media and use hashtag #ChestnutGroveQAL

So we will be following the following schedule to make our blocks!

Chestnut Grove finishes at 64″ x 79″, and consists of 8 different blocks.

2. PATTERN & KITS

Pattern will be released in 4 installments: Quilters World Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter 2023 issues.

Spring issue is now available – click HERE to purchase issue if you are not a subscriber.

My understanding is that there will be kits in the original version. I will post information once I know more.

3. FABRICS & COLOR INSPIRATIONS

Fabric yardage information is in included in Quilters World Spring 2023 issue. I am providing different color inspirations. However, due to time constraints, I am not able to provide any fabric sku list for the different color ways you see besides the fabric line information.

a. The original quilt uses Nutmeg by Moda with Grunge background. However, you may choose to use a light background.

Click HERE for Nutmeg fabric information.

b. My sew-along versions! I have two. I am making one with Moda’s Rendezvous, and another with Riley Blake’s Winter Wonder + other RBD reds. SO MANY of you asked to see a green/red version.

I AM USING A FQ BUNDLE for Rendezvous, and more than the 14 recommended fabrics for Winter Wonder – so my sewalong quilts will be scrappier!

Click HERE for Rendezvous fabric information.

c. Here is one with Moda’s Amelia’s Blues. Click HERE for fabric information.

d. Here is one with Moda’s Clover Blossom Farm. Click HERE for fabric information.

e. Here is one with Moda’s Sunwashed. Click HERE for fabric information.

I hope you will join me this year in making Chestnut Grove. See you on March 3!

  1. Wow! all of the color ways make for a beautiful Chestnut Grove quilt. Such a fun Crockpot SAL this past weekend. My quilt top should be completed by this afternoon. Thanks for your guidance, Wendy. ❤️

  2. Wow, you really have been upping your enabling! 🤣 All the different color ways are sooo tempting me. Maybe I’ll join later.

I’m struggling collecting fabrics for the Hearth and Home quilt right now. It looks so scrappy but it’s not working for me. As I look at your fabric pull for the Red and Green one it gives me hope! Your fabrics aren’t always the exact same red or green and end up looking so beautiful. I struggle with that. I need to not be so matchy matchy!!

Have fun with the SAL !

  3. I picked up a copy of the Spring 2023 Quilter’s World issue the other day and promptly spent the next few days tracking down yardage to make Chestnut Grove and Let’s Go Puddling as pictured in the magazine. I’m so excited to see you have a quilt along for Chestnut Grove. Typically I’m not one for sampler quilts but I fell in love with this one as soon as I saw it. I appreciate you showing it in a variety of colorways, but I do love that blue grunge background! Thank you for your delightful patterns. I’ve picked out projects to make from the last three issues of Quilter’s World and realized today they were all your designs – A Pumpkin a Day (Autumn 2022), Jingle Bells (Winter 2022) and Chestnut Grove and Let’s Go Puddling (Spring 2023.) Many thank!
