Hello Friends, I hope you are keeping well. Christmas is HERE – it truly is my favorite time of year.

Thank you to those of you who purchased Pine-ing for Christmas pattern over the weekend. I am most appreciative of your support. Pine-ing for Christmas is entirely scrap-friendly. The most tedious part would be to make the 3″ finished Ohio star units, but beyond that, everything else should be a breeze. Honestly, once you get used to handling small pieces, the Ohio star units go quickly as well. I recently made a set of twelve star units finishing at 3″ — it took me a little over 2 1/2 hrs. Not bad.

Moving on…, the Christmas tree is up, and so far that’s the only thing that is up. This year, I scrunched up an actual quilt to use as the tree skirt. I quite like it. Of course, the age-all battle is back between my daughter and myself regarding white lights vs. rainbow lights, haha! We take turns deciding what setting it would be for the lights.

The quilt, called Tree Farm, is my original design, featured in American Patchwork & Quilting December 2022 issue. I am told that the red and white in the pattern diagrams are switched. So, beware if you want to make yours exactly like mine. If not, yours will look just as beautiful, but with the colors switched for the 9-patch blocks.

Have you had your seams shift on you? It’s like after you sew the seam, you realize it is not exactly straight. You see how toward the end of the seam, the seam allowance is narrower? My two cents regarding this situation is:

Always double-check your seam allowance. There is NO SHAME re-sewing if it’s not exactly at 1/4″. In this situation, I don’t even take out the stitches. I just re-sew. If you take the time to make sure your seam is accurately sewn, you will be happier with your blocks/quilts – especially where tiny units are involved!

Now that I have shared my 2-cents for the week, it’s now your turn.

Thank you for stopping by! I wish you a most lovely Christmas season!

  1. Hi Wendy, Ok are you teasing us with those super cute sheep blocks? I love it. So fun. Is that something in the works? Yes I would love to make them. The body fabric is so fun and terrific!! Julie from Wisconsin 😊

  2. I’m enjoying working on the pine tree quilt with all those adorable Ohio star blocks. Of all the patterns I pulled out for a Christmas quilt, that’s the one my husband preferred! Those sheep blocks look like a blast to make, and I can hardly wait to hear more about them.
