2-Cent Tuesday

Hello Friends, Happy Summer to you! I hope you have been well. We are in the thick of summer at our end now that my daughter has finished her school year. It always takes me a little bit to get used to adjusting having my daughter home from school — now I wonder how I ever got things done work-wise during her pre-school years when we were practically joined at the hip. I guess during the early days, the multiple naps during the day really helped!

This simple red/white large postage stamp quilt was well received when I posted it on Instagram a few days ago. I thought I would repost it here in case you hadn’t seen it. If summer is busy for you, and you still want to sew, this might be a stress-free project for you. Basically, just use charm packs, or cut your stash up into 5″ squares, and start sewing!

Now for my 2-cents: if you find yourself work with soft yarn-dyes, and want your pinning to be a bit more secure prior to sewing, use fork pins! I found this out working with yarn dyes for an entire quilt this week — my first time!

A bonus 2-cents since I took last Tuesday off: I find that the weave on yarn dyes aren’t perhaps as tight. So, sometimes my stitches come off at the edges. I could shorten the stitch length, but that cause puckering ever so slightly, so, I actually reverse my stitches at the edges to secure them!

Now it’s your turn to share your 2-cents!

Thank you for stopping by — and I hope you have a lovely rest of your week!

  1. Thanks so much! Great idea! I sometimes struggle with pinning on my HSTs. I purchased some of these about three weeks ago. Thanks again, and Happy Summer! Roxy in Hudson, WI

  2. I do love that cheery postage stamp quilt. I put those pin forks on my shopping list just last week! Happy Summer β˜€οΈ

  3. two very good tips.
I have those fork pins. A box full, but I only have about 10 on my … one of my pincushions, the big one haha. and this is a good idea. I do have a few projects, like clothing for a bear… and stuff gets shifty on the machine. This is a great pin for that.

Sometimes I am a sloppy sewist. Then I just end up pulling out stitching. I probably waste a lot of thread when I am a slob. So, I try to remind myself to pay more attentionπŸ₯°πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ That is not advice for anyone except me. πŸ˜‡πŸ˜†

I need to make a zillion quilts for the grand girls. They are very interested in special treasures
