Hello Friends, I am really excited to share with you my FIRST feature in Quilters Newsletter — I have admired from afar all the projects in Quilters Newsletter for years. So it’s simply extra special to have Sherry’s Stars featured in the magazine.
Even more importantly, this project is a “giving credit where credit is due” project because without Sherry McConnell (Indiana, piecing) and Darlene Szabo (Arkansas, quilting), aka my personal quilting angels, Sherry’s Stars would not have happened. THANK YOU, Sherry and Darlene! I named Sherry’s Stars after Sherry McConnell because it was she who came up with the brilliant no-Y seams idea for constructing the blocks.
Sherry’s Stars is a one block wonder quilt — glammed up with the use of different colored fabrics! The fabrics I used are from Benartex’s Burlap Bright collection. If you remember, I had participated in Benartex’s Burlap Bright blog hop not too long ago here.
It was during our back to school bash that I took Sherry’s Stars along for a photo shoot. My very understanding family is used to these photo shoots. So it’s always a team effort (as you can see in the pictures below). I gave “my trusted assistant” a bit of busy work and asked her to pick off thread remnants on the quilt while I was getting the other stuff ready. The busy work turned into this “knocked down – dragged out” totally all-out endeavor of picking off every piece of lint/dust from the quilt. We practically had to drag her off the quilt so that I could actually start taking pictures of the quilt, ha! “Oh, just one more piece of lint, Mom”, she said!
And after the stylist/lint picker was dragged off the scene….
And here you see Darlene’s beautiful custom quilting…
I will be sharing with you in the near future more beauties made by Sherry and Darlene. Actually, even as I type, a Sherry/Darlene collaboration is brewing!

The entire time of the photo shoot, this and others like it were flying overhead non-stop — it was amazing!
Then…. I started hearing, “Mom, it’s getting hot! Let’s go inside.” KIDS!
I hope you have enjoyed seeing Sherry’s Stars. I hope you will try out Sherry’s no Y-seam method in making the blocks!
Until next time!
