Zigs & Zags in QUILTER’S WORLD (Spring 2015)

Happy Monday, Friends!  I hope you are well.  Thank you for stopping by again.  It’s been a while since I had an editorial feature in Quilter’s World.  I did have my Zigs & Zags quilt featured in their 2015 Spring Issue.

Zigs & Zags is a one block wonder quilt as far as the quilt center is concerned.  The blocks are all just one block, with different fabrics used and orientations.   My design philosophy has always been keep it simple, and see if there is a way to make the final effect look complicated.  Zigs & Zags definitely fits the bill!  Seriously – the quilt center uses just one block!  The outer border is made of flying geese units.  The larger amount of white in the flying geese units gives a nice contrast to the color-intense quilt center.

Zigs & Zags uses fabrics from Benartex‘s Caryl’s Feathers.

Quilting for this quilt is confined within the geometric makeup of the blocks. I quilted with Aurifil Mako 50 cotton thread over Hobbs Tuscany Silk batting.  No surprise there. :)  Of course, I also constructed the quilt top using the same Aurifil Mako 50 cotton thread.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you have liked Zigs & Zags — it is one of my “stepping out of my usual box” designs.  I would love to hear what you think of Zigs & Zags.  I hope you have a lovely rest of your week!  Hugs to you all.

  1. Fun, fun quilt, love “Caryl’s Brights.” It would definitely be out of my box, but I may have to give it a try. Think that at least one of my grandsons would consider it “very cool.”

  2. Lots of visual impact in this one. Sometimes, simple is the very best way to showcase an impressive fabric!!!
