The weather has been overcast/rainy where I am at. I am calling my current quilt “Overcast”. Here is a sneaky peek for you, and you will see how I have used the gray:
I template-pieced my Overcast blocks, and I am thrilled that the points came together satisfactorily. These blocks can also be paper-pieced. I wonder if you were making these blocks, would you template or paper piece them? Do tell!
By the time you read this post, the actual quilt will just be ready to ship. It’s been busy at my end the last couple of days. But I can’t complain…

I definitely paper-piece when I can…it’s relaxing for me! I always know that my precision will be better when I do! I noticed last week that my LQS had a whole section devoted to gray…may be time to spend my rewards card there on a little gray stash building!

Though I love the accuracy of foundation paper piecing, I find it very tedious. I’d use the templates–though my points would never look as good as yours!

I would use templates. I find tracing around each template and cutting them out to be very very relaxing.
Wow. Great center. I would want to try using the template. I do not know if I could get such a good center though. ; )
It looks pretty in those colors, Wendy. I would probably use paper piecing to make them.
I am linking what I am seeing of your “Overcast” quilt. When you say template piecing do you mean your used a template or ruler?
paper piecing is fun but sometimes feel its more time consuming.
I just use templates printed on paper, and go from there. I like to use template piecing when the block layout isn’t too complicated, but when it gets to be too complicated, paper piecing is the way to go. I will share a tutorial on how I did that block when I am able to share about the quilt. :o)

Hi Wendy! Can’t wait to see the whole quilt! When it comes to picking templates versus paper piecing, I don’t know that I have a preference. Whichever produces the result I want, would be my choice!
The gray is a perfect compliment. Hot and humid here, makes for good inside sewing weather. Some trees are starting to turn colors.
The title is perfect – the little swirlies look like hurricanes or tornadoes. Most of our summer has been overcast, but it has definitely taken some of the heat out, so I am not complaining.
Wendy, your skills thrill me! Your points are perfect! And the gray looks great with what you have put with it. Can’t wait to see the whole quilt.
I was looking today for a quilt pattern for my grandson who will be five in September. I came accross “Simply Sweet – for Boys”. I was so excited to see it was designed by you. And I think I have the time to get it done for him for Christmas. And I have some neat camping and wildness fabric to make it out of.

Your points are perfect! I’ve made this block a number of times, but my technique of choice is foundation-piecing whenever I can. That said, I’m not a perfectionist when it comes to points!

I would never get the pretty points without using paper foundation piecing – very nicely done!
