Fresh and Refreshed in QUILTER’S WORLD (April 2012)

Hello Friends,  I hope you had a good weekend.  It seems like mine just evaporated away because I spent most of my weekend sleeping!  That aside, I did receive my quilts featured in Quilter’s World‘s April 2012 issue back from the editor over the weekend.

I actually have two featured quilts in the issue.  I shall show you “Fresh and Refreshed” first.

The quilt is made with Benartex‘s Backyard Buttferly fabrics.  The fabric designs are lighthearted, fun and soft.

The quilt design itself is a bit more contemporary than my usual style.  I don’t often piece with templates, but I really enjoyed template-piecing this quilt top.

Quilting on this quilt is just as informal.  I quilted an allover design of square-petaled flowers over the quilt center, some  loops in one of the sashings, and more free-handed floral motifs on the border.  I used Aurifil Mako 50 Cotton threads for quilting and piecing this quilt.  Batting used was Hobbs Tuscany Silk.

Hope you enjoyed my Fresh and Refreshed!  Happy Monday!

  1. I love the square petal quilting. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like them before. Great design; the pink fabric really pops right off the page.

  2. Wow! The name you chose for the quilt really fits the quilt. I spent quite a few minutes just looking at the pictures of this quilt and felt a lightness and refreshing. Something about those soft colors is just really refreshing. I am so glad that you are so willing to share your talent with us. I noticed that you are scheduled to do a tutorial in August for the SewCalGal free motion challenge. I hope you will do it on your gorgeous feathers!!!!! I can’t get enough of looking at your exquisite feathers!!!!!!!
Again, thank you for the pictures of Fresh and Refresh. I am definitely going to make this one.

  3. OOOOOOH!! Do you hear me squealing?! I LOVE THIS QUILT! It reminds me of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Stars. The jazzy little flowers you quilted in with spiral centers are so playful and fun. Your quilts always make me happy. :-)

  4. YOu come up with the greatest patterns. Great job getting those points to come together.
Hope you had a great trip. It sounds like you need a vacation from vacation. I am sure the jet lag has caught up to you. I have been following along with the posts but didn’t leave many comments. Thanks for stopping by my blog a little while ago.

  5. I love this quilt! Your design is perfect for the fabrics, so cheerful. The quilting, as always, is lovely. I hope you’re feeling better and the jet lag is going away!

  6. Picked up the mag at the grocery store this morning and sat down & looked it all up as soon as I got home. Your quilts were the highlight of the whole magazine! Gorgeous, both of them!

  7. Simply gorgeous and as gorgeous as they are I want to say thank you for showing the quilting you did. You have been such an inspiration to me. I’m currently practicing my FMQ. I have a baby quilt (new grandchild due to make their appearance in August) that I’m going to quilt. Thanks for giving me the courage Wendy. It may not be perfect but it will be totally made by Grandma! lol!

  8. Have been in a “flower” quilting mode. All different types and, now, I think I will add your square petal flowers…..darling, and so perfect. It has that super soft, cozy look we all love! Congratulations on the publication and am SO THANKFUL all was gotten back to you ok! Hugs, Doreen

  9. Beautiful quilt; beautiful timing! How refreshing to have this published right after your refreshing vacation with family.
