Jungle Jim & Jane in FONS & PORTER’S BABY QUILTS (Fall 2010)

“Baby Quilts (2010)” by Fons & Porter will be coming to newsstands near you toward the end of the month. I received my complimentary copies last week. The magazines come with CD’s containing the 2009 Baby Quilts in digital form. So, you are really getting TWO copies of the magazines:

In it are my Jungle Jim and Jane baby quilts!!! This is my first feature in a Fons & Porter magazine. I am super excited!!

These quilts are actually my first ever flannel project. The fabrics are from RJR‘s Baobab collection. I have a suspicion the adorable animals would make this line of fabrics a popular one. They are soft flannels made with brushed cotton:

I enjoyed working with them. I pressed my seams open throughout the piecing process, and that didn’t give me any problems. My points still matched up nicely.

The quilting was done free-hand on my home machine over Hobbs‘ Tuscany Bleached Cotton Batt, and with Aurifil Mako 50 threads (blue: 2710, pink: 2410).

The kits are available from Fons & Porter in the colorway of your choice. The main fabric for the snowball blocks is actually a border fabric. Border fabrics are not just for borders – they are fun to use somewhere else in quilts too! Keep that in mind the next time you don’t know what to do with a wide border print… the possibilities await you! :)

I didn’t get as much done over the weekend. So, I will have a bit of catching up to do. I’d better get going. I wish you a productive and lovely week.

Oh, and you’re right about the FMQ–it is addictive. :-) My feathers are getting better, and I’m getting faster at it. I’ll soon have that block done (after only 3 1/2 hours–LOL) and I’m eager to move on to the next one.

These quilts are ADORABLE, and I love the Francis I silver that you displayed there. That’s my MIL’s pattern.
