I want mine super-sized!

A reader asked me if I had a pattern for making my “Bloom Wherever You Are” into a queen sized quilt.

I played around with the placement, and came up with this. I thought I would share the pattern with my bloggy friends in case you want to supersize the quilt too!

Basically, it is like making the wall-hanging repeated four times. The size of the blocks is 12″ instead of 8″. According to calculations done by EQ, the following are the yardages you will need for a 92.5″ finished size quilt:

white floral (No. 8801-01) — 2 1/2 yards*

green floral (No. 8804-01) — 2 1/2 yards

light pink floral (No. 8804-03) — 4 5/8 yards

yellow large floral (No. 8802-02) — 3 yards

packed multi floral (No. 8807-01) — 2 5/8 yards*

*assumes single strip of fabric for continuous border

Now we are down to the nitty-gritty cutting details —

From the light pink floral fabric, you will need

— 160 3 1/2″ squares

— 32 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips

— 8 2″ x 9 1/2″ strips

— 8 2″ x 12 1/2″ strips

From the yellow large floral fabric, you will need:

— 4 9 1/2″ squares

— 32 3 1/2″ squares

–32 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips

— 32 3 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ strips

From the green floral fabric, you will need

— 32 3 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ strips

— 32 3 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ strips

From the white floral fabric, you will need (for inner border)

— 2 4 1/2″ x 72″ strips

— 2 4 1/2″ x 80″ strips

From the packed multi floral fabric, you will need for the outer border

— 2 6 3/4″ x 80″

— 2 6 3/4″ x 92 1/2″

— lengths of 2″ strips for binding

(You may freely adjust the widths of your borders to achieve the specific final size of your quilt. If you do that, please re-calculate the fabrics you will need)

For piecing instructions, please refer to pages 59-60 of the January 2010 issue of The Quilter. Magazines can be purchased from The Quilter‘s website.
