OFB Smocked Daygown Part 1: Getting Started

It takes me forever, for some reason, to complete a smocked garment that I thought if I have you my readers hold me accountable, I would make faster progress. This is one of my newest project (a smocked daygown by Old Fashioned Baby):

I am going to do a fancy hem, and here are the French cotton Val laces I am going to use:

Here is the lace that goes on the sleeve and collars:

(This lace is slightly wider than 1/4″ — I have had quite a saga with it, but I will save that for another post)

See? I already have one sleeve smocked — talk about instantaneous progress :) :

(The orange threads will stay on until after garment construction is completed)

  2. So pretty. I did smocking on a bridesmaid dress for my daughter and also for another bridesmaid in the wedding several years ago. What a job. I love smocking though.

  3. I love your smocking, I am trying to learn, done small projects years ago. But I am looking for a used pleater. Just in case I do not use it much. I trying out some how bows I bought off ebay. Now. I just love your blog
