Black has struck again!!! Remember my “black in quilts” post last week? I am a bit shocked to find yet more black in my latest project.
I guess until last week, I just haven’t been cognizant of my use of black fabrics in my quilts. And what do you know, it is another Christmas quilt. So far all my quilts that have black in them have been Christmas quilts.
I am so proud of the name I came up with for this quilt. I remember a song that I played on the piano when I was a wee lass that had the word “whirligig” in the title. We shall see if the editor decides to use or chuck the name.
It’s been a busy week for me. These whirligigs, though not difficult to make, are time-consuming. In the meantime, I have been making time to work on clothes for Baby – because she is growing up WAY to fast!! I want to do my best to shower her with clothes I make while she doesn’t know what is trendy out there. Oh, I do dread the day when she comes up and tells me, “Mom, I don’t mean to hurt your feelings, but can we go out and buy my clothes instead…”

Oh rue the day! :0)
oooo this is so pretty. I love how the black really makes whirlagigs pop! Great combination.
Oh yes! I love it!
Love the name and love the look of the quilt – black adds such a touch of elegance, doesn’t it?
My girlfriend’s mum was a master seamstress, and she made all her clothes until she was a teen. Then all she wanted was store-bought. Now she tries to get her mum to make her clothes again, but mum’s not having it lol!
This IS pretty. I can’t wait to see a picture of the whole quilt!
Baby looks dolly and adorable in all the dresses!!
Feel Christmasie over here seeing your project – Hugs Natima
Ohh I like this!!! Very stunning!
I think there is a lot of black in Christmas fabrics because in the northern hemisphere Christmas falls near the shortest day of the year and it seems many of the traditions take place at night. Looking at my Christmas quilts and I have quite a number, almost all of them have black in them. I love your new quilt and your name for it. Lucky you, baby has quite a few more years before your sewing won’t do! I received my magazine. Thank you! Your featured project is so cute. What a nice gift for a favorite teacher.
Love the name! Black and red together are kind of a trend right now — the last two weddings I’ve been to have used those colors as a theme, and I’ve seen them listed as decorating colors for several brides for their new homes.
Mmmm. I’m loving this quilt too Wendy!
Lats but not least, gorgeous this Christmas stars!!!
Bravo, Wendy!
