At first glance, it looks prickly and unyieldingly unfriendly among the other more graceful and amiable blossoms in the nursery. But after walking past it several times, I began to find it rather beautiful in its own way.
“The cardoon (artichoke thistle) was popular in Greek and Roman cuisine. Cardoons remained popular in medieval and early modern Europe, and were common in the vegetable gardens of colonial America” (www.wikipedia.org).

I would love to know what you think of this seemingly forgotten gem if you have had a chance to taste it.
I would be most likely working on my Sunbonnet Sue quilt when you read this post. I hope to have some pictures for you before the week is over. Have a lovely day, everyone.

Hi Wendy, that is beautiful image. I love them to eat I meant. My DH is Greek and we have lived in the Mediteranian coasts so it was very common in their cuisine. They are popular preserved too. Thanks for the nutrition facts
I’ve never had artichoke. I don’t know why — I’ve just never been inspired to try it. If you do, let me know how you like it.
It is rather a unique and uninviting-looking plant, isn’t it? But I can see how it could grow on a person. Well — you know what I mean.
That is a pretty flower/plant in its own way. Eating it? I can’t even imagine!
What an incredible plant! I know it is healthy to eat, but I would only want to look at it!

What a great plant! I’ve never had an artichoke thistle but I’ve had plenty of good ole artichokes grown for consumption. Yummy!!
