… I am not a doll maker!

Just look at my feeble and unsuccessful attempt at making a fabric bear! The bear is a free pattern from Bunny Hill designs. I followed the instructions in the making process and had great visions that it would look at least somewhat close to this – cute, cuddly, graceful, lovely etc (another handmade bear!):

Instead, mine looks like pitifully deformed and disjointed, with “pleats” that I couldn’t quite smooth out. I was so dis-spirited that I didn’t even stuff it:

I think I will just go back to my quilting hole! Meanwhile, if you could tell me what I did wrong, I would really appreciate it!
Oh, before I sign off, I thought I would let you know that I had truly enjoyed “The Chronicles of Pemberley”. It was a most delightful read. There is a second book to the series. I can’t wait to get my inept “teddy bear making” hands on it.

Have a great Monday, everyone! Thanks for stopping by. I hope to show you something actually pretty later this week!

Well let’s think now…what can I say about your bear. How about, He’s go lot’s of character!! :0)
I’m still trying to get my hands on the Pemberley Chronicles. I’ll probably end up ordering it from Amazon. I tried the library and they didn’t have it.
Blessings on your week…
Of course I meant He’s got lots of not he’s go…
He’s kind of cute in his own way.
We have a little misshapen bear Christmas ornament that my kids just love and look forward to putting on the tree each year.
I’m sorry I have no tips — I am not good at that sort of thing, either.
He’s very cute in his way!! In fact, I think he’s adorable!!! But then we sometimes will buy a mishapen bear, just to make sure he gets a good home. I’d definitely stuff him and give him a hug!
I’m thrilled to hear about the book — and will head to the bookstore later this evening to get it! Thanks for the review!
I think he will be adorable when he gets stuffed. Who ever thought a skinny bear was cute! Someone will just love him! ;~}
turn him wrong side out and clip the curves a bit closer and then turn him around and go ahead and stuff him. he’s probably much better than you think right now.
BUT
the reason he doesn’t look at all like the other one is because the other one has a PIECED HEAD, which is fairly tricky to do right, and seperate pieced arms and legs which are then sewed through the body to eachother. you get very different results with that kind of pattern.
i’ve spent years making teddy bears and miniature teddys too (some only 2 inches tall with snaps for joints) and while the uber-fancy kind are pretty, they’re really hard compared to the kind you’ve just made.
I think you’ver got to stuff him to get his real personality to come out. You may find that he is quite different than you think! I personally like him!
Hi,
Thank you for stopping by my blog, come back to visit anytime! Have you read Mr. Darcy Presents His Bride:A Sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, by Helen Halstead? It’s very good!! I will try The Chronicles of Pemberley…sounds interesting!
I don’t sew, so I can’t give any tips, but I agree with the others. If you stuff your bear, he may turn out better than you expect. The fabric you used is lovely.
Have a wonderful week!
Well, I think he’s just too cute! With or without stuffing! Nothing that is made with loving hands could ever be unsuccessful. (And tiny ones don’t reject lovies from their mamas ~ do you know anyone who might fit the bill?…;)
I think he might look cute when stuffed and given some embellishments! Your work is lovely in everything you do…so don’t give up on him!
I agree that you can’t tell for sure until you stuff him/her…
Hello my friend! I agree with tirane93 that you just need to clip the seams a little closer. you’ve got a great start there on your bear! I think it’s SO cute that I want to go make one too! hey, sometimes the mishaps are what makes something so charming in the first place.
