Hello Everyone! I hope you are doing well.
My day went by way too quickly for me. These are some French inspired beauties I was able to quickly assemble today for a quick snapshot – a toile napkin, a Napoleon golden bee red pillow, a French cross-stitch project in progress on a Louis XV reproduction chair — All bearing some shade of ROUGE!

Toile, shortened from “Toile de Jouy”, originated in France in the late 1700s. In the French language, the phrase literally means “cloth from Jouy-en-Josas”, a town of north-central France.
Golden Bee – Napoleon used the bee as a symbol of his empire after his coronation in 1804. It stood for industry, efficiency and productivity. Also emblematic of immortality and resurrection, the bee was chosen to link the new dynasty to the very origins of France. Golden bees (cicadas really) were discovered in 1653 in Tournai in the tomb of Childeric I (father of Clovis) who founded the Merovingian dynasty in 457. They were considered to be the oldest emblem of the sovereigns of France.
Now, a closeup on my Point de Croix in Rouge:

Thanks for stopping by, till next time!
I love toile! A friend had a blue toile wallpaper in the hallway of a heritage home and it was absolutely gorgeous!
The red cross stitch is wonderful!
I enjoyed the history lesson and the beautiful photos. Thank you for sharing.
Love all your rouge! My girlfriend in Washingto was just showing me her french glasses with bees on them with a story about Napolean. Have a great evening Wendy!
I have seen quite a lot of French things (e.g. French glasses) with bees on them over here too, French things have been so in-vogue, and of course we love them too.
I just love that chair and the way you display your stitching in this photo is very charming!
Your vignette has great appeal. I enjoyed your historical review of the terms also.
