The classic story of Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery has delighted many many girls of all ages throughout the generations,

including this “little” girl who is only 3/4″ tall!

I just found a most interesting book on the life of LM Montgomery (”Looking for Anne of Green Gables – The story of L.M. Montgomery and Her Literary Classic” by Ireme Gammel) in the library today, and I thought I would share it with you in case you are interested:

I have to confessed I read the epilogue first, and found these interesting snippets on some of the dramatis personae in L.M. Montgomery’s life. I will mention only one:
- Ellen Macneill was the Nova Scotia orphan who provided the basis for Anne of Green Gables. She raised a big family of twelve children. She always wondered if Anne was based on her, and was gratified to receive confirmation on her suspicion four years before she passed away in 1974.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday, and are enjoying whatever book you are reading right now!
You know, I have heard about this book forever, but never read it. I think I will.
Oh I love this Matryoshka doll you have and I am very interested in Anne! I finally read Anne of Green Gables for the first time this year and was so satisfied. I’ve seen the tv series etc. but had never read the books…
Okay. Now I’ve got to re-read Anne of Green Gables for the umpty-umpth time. I think it’s almost a Canadian rite of passage to read that series and it truly is rather magical to lose oneself in it.
Hi again Wendy,
The pot holders on my site were all hand made…
Have a wonderful day…
Thanks for sharing that interesting bit of literary history. Your nesting dolls reminded me of one a friend brought me from Moscow in 1995.
I love the Anne series. I’ll have to keep an eye out for that book. I had no idea Anne was based on a real person.
I’ve read Anne’s series many times growing up, but never came across this one, very interesting!
